Q2 2021 tourist numbers 73% below Q2 2019

More than 1.5 million tourists stayed in Czech hotels and pensions during the second quarter of 2021. But while that’s more than 50% more than a year ago, it’s just a fraction of the 5.7 million that did so in Q2 2019. Prague’s hotel sector has been hit harder than almost any other in Europe, with vacancy levels running at just 18% according to a recent study by STR. The Czech Statistics Office found that the current figures are more than 70% off the pace from 2019. It writes that the main problem is the massive deficit in foreign tourists. While 2.9 million came to the Czech Republic in 2019, this year it was just 230,000.
