Správa železnic (SŽ) signed a CZK 149 million contract with the British architectural studio William Matthews Associates for the project documentation on its planned new headquarters. That’s higher than the expected value of the contract which was CZK 123 million. The studio won an international competition last year for the building, coming out ahead of 34 other bids. The British studio is working in conjunction with the local firm A8000. The new headquarters will be located next to the Smichov train station in Prague 5 and should house around 1,300 people now scattered between several buildings. The 7-storey structure is expected to cost nearly CZK 2 billion to construct. Správa železnic’s web page describes the design of the new building as one which illustrates the innovative, forward thinking type of company it aims to be. William Matthews Associates has also won a competition for a bridge over the Svitava river in Brno.
