Popeyes & Five Guys to open in Brno and Prague

Published: 17. 01. 2025

The fast food revolution that got underway two years ago in the Czech Republic may be going slower than advertised, but it’s still on. For years, McDonald’s and KFC ruled the world of Czech fast food. But this dynamic changed in 2023 when news broke first that both Popeyes and Five Guys were planning to open soon in Prague.

In fact, only Popeyes started welcoming customers. A line of people stretched up Wenceslas Square for at least a month – a visual reminder of the appetite Czechs had for something new. Emboldened, the company continued its cautious roll-out of new sites around the capital. Now, Popeyes has announced that it will open its fifth store in Brno near Svoboda nám, adjacent to Klein Palace. It’s a 560 sqm location that will offer 123 seats across three floors adjacent to Klein Palace.

Long lines of people guarantee media coverage, so the company will likely repeat its formula from the Prague debut: handing out free sandwiches all day. And giving three customers a year’s worth of free chicken sandwiches.

Lost in the noise goes the mysterious delays for Five Guys. The chain is growing rapidly around Europe, but incapable of opening its long-awaited restaurant in the renovated Máj department store on Národní třídě. E15 writes that the company’s Czech website is ready to go and work applications are being accepted. “We’ve just been informed that the Five Guys facility should open at the beginning of spring,” says Karel Samec, a media representative for the building’s owner Amadeus Real Estate.

The Five Guys franchise is owned by Monterock International, which plans to launch in Slovakia Hungary and Poland. It currently operates two restaurants in Vienna.

Popeyes is being pushed by Rex Concepts, the investment vehicle of McWin Capital Partners, which itself was co-founded by former CEO of AmRest Holdings Henry McGovern.
