Will Prague kill off David Černy’s Butterflies?

Published: 25. 04. 2025

Will the Spitfire Butterflies be taken off the Maj Narodni building this summer? The (now) colorful building in downtown Prague has been in the news ever since news leaked that artist David Cerny had been commissioned to decorate this building, which is on a national list of protected buildings.

They went up nearly a year ago, and the permit that allowed them to be installed runs out soon. Amadeus Real Estate bought the Máj building in central Prague in 2019, but it took quite a while to answer the question: what do you do with a former department store? The Klán family (owner of Amadeus Real Estate) came up with a series of concepts for the building. Eventually, it hit upon the idea of creating nine floors of games, entertainment and F&B.
