Panattoni expanding Tchibo’s Cheb shed to 103,000 sqm

Panattoni is expanding the distribution center it built for Tchibo in Cheb for the second time, which will allow the building to offer a capacity of 50,000 pallet spaces. Originally a coffee retailer, the company has transformed its brand so that it now sells a constantly changing assortment of clothing and various domestic knick-knacks. This has brought with it far more complex logistics procedures and Tchibo’s need for a distribution and storage center of 103,000 sqm. The company has decided it needs the larger space in order to continue to delivery during times of lockdown, but also to be able to handle the peak traffic period before Christmas. Tchibo also supplies the Slovak, Polish, Hungarian, Austrian, Swiss and German markets from Cheb.

Pavel Sovička, Managing Director for Panattoni for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, says the building will attain BREEAM “Excellent”. Tchibo’s spokeswoman Eva Kotýnková said that many of its customers had begun buying their goods online, but said it was too soon to say how many. Due for completion before the end of the year, the building will be part of the Accolade portfolio.

We are happy about the positive development of our e-commerce business. The redesign of our logistics network is continued in the expansion of our activities in Cheb. Tchibo would like to use this to better reach its growing number of customers with coffee and consumer goods,” says Dr. Jens Köppen, CFO and Board Member for Service & Finance at Tchibo Germany.
