dm drogerie moves to Prologis Park Prague D1 Ostředek

dm drogerie has moved into a new warehouse, the DC2 building in Prologis Park Prague D1 Ostředek. The company has its primary logistics warehouse outside Jihlava. But as its network of stores grew to 256, the complexity of the business exploded. Over a single weekend, DM moved from a 7,000 sqm shed in Divišov into the new 21,000 sqm warehouse in Ostředek at kilometer 34 of the D1. Since the new logistics center is so close to the old one, logistics director Petr Vaněček says there was no problem getting 200 employees the company employs to move.  The warehouse runs entirely on electricity (no gas mains are available), including an initial array of solar panels which will be expanded upon in the future. Cushman & Wakefield worked with DM drogerie to identify the best site for its expansion. “I think the warehouse space in Ostředek will serve as an excellent starting point for supplying our stores around the country,” he said.

While there are plenty of municipalities around the country that are against the construction of industrial sites, Ostředek’s mayor Marek Škvor said he welcomes it. The gradual development  of sheds along the highway brings no extra traffic for residents, as it’s concentrated along the motorway. Just as importantly, he says, the investors and tenants contribute via transparent donations to the municipal budget and so are an important source of income.

While Škvor admits the town could raise the town’s real estate tax level to 5%, its leadership hasn’t felt it necessary to go above the current 2%. Naturally, there are a variety of opinions among individuals in Ostředek, but as he points out, he’s already been in the job for ten years now and re-election hasn’t proved a problem.
